1 Peter 2:13-15 CEV The Lord wants you to obey all human authorities, especially the Emperor, who rules over everyone. (14) You must also obey governors, because they are sent by the Emperor to punish criminals and to praise good citizens. [Rom 13:1-2] (15) God wants you to silence stupid and ignorant people by doing right.

1 Peter 2:13-15 ESV Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, (14) or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. [Rom 13:1-2] (15) For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.

1 Peter 2:13-15 GNB For the sake of the Lord submit yourselves to every human authority: to the Emperor, who is the supreme authority, (14) and to the governors, who have been appointed by him to punish the evildoers and to praise those who do good. You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
