1 John 2:7-8 ESV . . .Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word (Rev 19:11-13) that you have heard. (8) At the same time, it is a new commandment (Isa 60:2-3) that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.
[God's old and only later day commandment is to listen to his Christ. (Mat 17:5) That command is made new (having a new awakening) by its revelation of understanding during these last days; in our realizing how it applies to our day in time. (Isa 60:2-3) All peoples are being made to see and understand; Christ is the new reigning King of the earth! (Isa 45:22-25) Christ has been enthroned. "Everyone" who wants to continue alive in his Kingdom (Isa 11:1-13) will bow down to him as יהוה's appointed King. (1 Cor 15:12-28) Know that as true... Talk about it! (Mal 3:16-4:3; Rom 10:9-10)]
1 John 2:7-8 BBE . . .My loved ones, I do not give you a new law, but an old law which you had from the first; this old law is the word (Rev 19:11-13) which came to your ears. (8) Again, I give you a new law, (Isa 60:2-3) which is true in him and in you; for the night is near its end and the true light is even now shining out.
1 John 2:7-8 LITV . . .Brothers, I do not write a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the Word (Rev 19:11-13) which you have heard from the beginning. (8) Again I write a new commandment (Isa 60:2-3) to you which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true Light already shines.
1 John 2:7-8 GNB . . .My dear friends, this command I am writing you is not new; it is the old command, the one you have had from the very beginning. The old command is the message (Rev 19:11-13) you have already heard. (8) However, the command I now write you is new, (Isa 60:2-3) because its truth is seen in Christ and also in you. For the darkness is passing away, and the real light is already shining.
1 John 2:7-8 CEV . . .My dear friends, I am not writing to give you a new commandment. It is the same one that you were first given, and it is the message (Rev 19:11-13) you heard. (8) But it really is a new commandment, and you know its true meaning, (Isa 60:2-3) just as Christ does. You can see the darkness fading away and the true light already shining.
1 John 2:7-8 GW . . .Dear friends, it's not as though I'm writing to give you a new commandment. Rather, I'm giving you an old commandment that you've had from the beginning. It's the old commandment (Rev 19:11-13) you've already heard. (8) On the other hand, I'm writing to give you a new commandment. It's a truth (Isa 60:2-3) that exists in Christ and in you: The darkness is fading, and the true light is already shining.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
