The Ephod worn by the priests in the temple consisted of a sort of apron. The High Priest wore a breastplate containing twelve stones with the name of one of the twelve tribes of Israel engraved on each stone. The other priests wore less extravagant breastplates. The Ephod set of apron and breastpiece was worn over a robe or sleeveless coat. (Mat 20:28; Heb 10:5-10) The Ephod was used to inquire of יהוה. The Priesthood and all they did served as a tutor leading us to faith in the words of Christ. (Gal 3:23-26)
